MAKE A POINT; How does it work? ACUPUNCTURE FOR BEAUTIFUL SKIN beauty.

Byline: YOUR LOOKS WITH NATALIE KEEGAN

Acupuncture is a medicinal practice which began in ancient China and has been developed to help with many ailments including fertility, arthritis and eczema. But the latest trend is using acupuncture pins as a beauty treatment for your face.

Many now swear by facial acupuncture as a non-surgical alternative to Botox or cosmetic surgery. Celebrity fans include Kim Kardashian, who recently posted a picture of herself online, with 19 small needles in her face. The facials are designed to improve overall skin quality while eliminating fines lines, softening deeper wrinkles and giving your face a dewy appearance. Each needle is only the thickness of a single human hair so they shouldn't cause any pain.

Acupuncture facials such as AcuFacial could be why clinic comparison website WhatClinic.com found a 48 per cent increase, from January 2013 to 2014, in people looking online for acupuncture treatments.

Suzanne Cafferky, from Ireland's Drogheda Acupuncture and Wellness Clinic, says: 'Acupuncture is the world's oldest drug-free therapy and comes with no side effects. It's important to understand that it works over a period of time. I recommend 10 sessions in order to see good results.' The average price for acupuncture body treatments is around PS41, for facials around PS80. To find a clinic and compare treatments visit whatclinic.com.
