MAJOR CORPORATIONS TEAM UP TO SUPPORT
LOS ANGELES URBAN LEAGUE LITERACY CENTER
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Coors Brewing Company has teamed up wit Tombstone Pizza Corp., the Southern California Honda Dealers Association, and KACE 109.3 FM Radio to raise funds for the Los Angeles Urban League Family Literacy Center at the 5th Annual Coors Long Beach Jazz Festival as part of its "Literacy. Pass It On." campaign.
The jazz festival will be held beginning Friday, Aug. 14 and continue through Sunday, Aug. 16 in Rainbow Lagoon Park, adjacent to the Long Beach Convention Center. A variety of jazz performers will be featured, including Jon Lucien, Keiko Matsui, Earl Klugh, The Rippington's, Ronnie Laws, Ramsey Lewis, and George Howard.
Tombstone Pizza will donate pizzas to be sold at the Coors Literacy exhibit booth during the three-day festival. All proceeds from the sale of the pizzas and souvenir sports bottles, donated by Honda and KACE, will be donated to the Urban League Family Literacy Center. Additionally, partial proceeds from the jazz festival ticket sales will also benefit the center.
The literacy center provides services in reading, math, writing, listening, and problem solving to disadvantaged youth and their families. The program's goals are to assist youth and their families in developing the skills to compete for, obtain and retain meaningful employment as well as higher educational achievements. Coors has been a major corporate sponsor of the Urban League for several years.
The "Literacy. Pass It On." campaign was created by Coors to address the problem of intergenerational illiteracy in America. In 1990, Coors launched the five-year, $40 million program committed to reaching 500,000 adults with literacy services. The corporation funds and promotes a literacy hotline to increase awareness and recruit volunteers and non-readers, and also generates funds for literacy at local levels.
