MAINSTREAM DATA INTRODUCES MACWIRE -- SOFTWARE THAT TRANSFORMS THE MACINTOSH INTO A REAL-TIME NEWS PROCESSOR

SALT LAKE CITY, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Mainstream Data, leader in data broadcast technology, announces the release of MacWire, a newswire processing software for Apple Macintosh computers capable of receiving, filtering and displaying real-time news. MacWire allows most major newswires to be inserted directly into a Macintosh computer and is fully compatible with all services conforming to ANPA Bulletin 1312 format including Knight-Ridder/Tribune, Associated Press, UPI, Reuters, PR Newswire, Business Wire, Agence France Presse, Comtex and others.
In addition to accepting newswires transmitted over telephone lives, MacWire is capable of receiving FM and satellite transmissions via Mainstream Data's North America-wide broadcasting network.
Priced at $995, MacWire will be officially introduced at the NEXPO Trade Show in New Orleans on June 14.
MacWire allows the user to compose up to 32 separate `sections' or windows -- each dedicated to a different topic or subject based upon user-defined key word tables. All sections are updated in real- time -- as a new story comes across the wire. MacWire does not need a dedicated Macintosh computer -- the system works in background mode while the user performs other tasks such as word processing, database management, etc.
"Users of Knight-Ridder/Tribune newswires have been waiting for this," commented Robert Harris, director of Knight-Ridder/Tribune Business News. "The publishing community has had newswires and Macintosh computers for years, but nobody has put the two together. MacWire gives publishers the facility they've been waiting for -- applying the creative power of the Mac to the newswires."
Mainstream Data, based in Salt Lake City, was founded in 1985 to provide data broadcasting services to the newswire industry. In addition to providing Macintosh software, Mainstream Data operates FM/satellite data broadcasting networks which blanket North America, sending timely information to more than 15,000 locations.
