MAINE COUPLE $5 MILLION RICHER IN READER'S DIGEST SWEEPSTAKES

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y., April 23 /PRNewswire/ -- The Reader's Digest Association today honored John and Geraldine Nagle of Greenville, Maine, as the $5 million grand prize winners of the company's $11.25 million sweepstakes.
The Nagles received a check for $167,000 from George V. Grune, Reader's Digest chairman and chief executive officer. The balance of the $5 million will be paid over the next 29 years. The couple also received an early-entry bonus of $100,000.
"People always ask us `Do you really give away all that money?'" Grune said. "We certainly do." Turning to the Nagles, he added: "And from the smiles on your faces, you know that we give it away, too."
Nagle, 65, a retired general superintendent of parks and recreation for the city of Boston, and his wife have nine children and 14 grandchildren. Twenty family members from Massachusetts and Rhode Island attended the ceremony at Reader's Digest global headquarters.
Reader's Digest flew the Nagles to New York City for an all- expenses-paid weekend that included a dinner cruise around Manhattan and a private banquet for the family.
The Nagles are the $5 million grand prize winners, but an additional 53,175 people across the United States will share prizes totaling another $6.25 million. Among them:
-- $300,000 to Jack Elrod, Marion, Ohio
-- $150,000 to Bud Cassell, Kansas City, Mo.
-- $100,000 to Bert Zats of Minneapolis, Minn.
