MAIL BOXES ETC. ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF OFFICER
SAN DIEGO, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Mail Boxes Etc. (NASDAQ: MAIL)

("MBE"), announced today that its Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer G. Reid Smith, 44, has elected to resign from the company following the recent action by the company's executive committee requiring all of the company's directors, officers and key employees to divest themselves of any ownership interests in the company's franchises. Smith elected to retain his interests in an MBE Area Franchise and accordingly has decided to leave the company. The company stated that Smith's resignation was for personal reasons and is not in any way related to the company's financial performance.
No successor was announced, but Smith has agreed to act as a consultant to the company until the end of the year to ease the transition until a new chief financial officer is selected. In the interim period, obligations of chief financial officer will be carried out by Fred Tanquary, the company's controller.
Mail Boxes Etc. is the world's largest franchisor of postal, business and communication centers, with more than 1,600 MBE centers operating in the United States and with MBE Master Licensees in Canada, Mexico, Japan, Spain and Jamaica.
