MAHCP, MedImpact to Present Case Study on URx Value-Based Pharmacy Benefit Program.

SAN DIEGO -- An award-winning value-based pharmacy benefit case study will be showcased during a Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute webinar from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm Eastern Time on Tuesday, May 22, 2012.

The Montana Association of Health Care Purchasers (MAHCP) and MedImpact Healthcare Systems, Inc. work together to administer URx, a unique drug benefit program that leverages a value-based benefit design built on an eight-tier formulary. A detailed case study on URx and its impact on drug savings will be presented on May 22 by Mark Eichler, BSPharm, RPH, director of pharmacy services for MAHCP; and Bimal Patel, PharmD, MS, director of health outcomes research for MedImpact.

"Montana's employers recognized the need to align incentives in the pharmacy benefit to maximize quality while curbing the rate of increase in drug costs and benefit premiums," said Don Creveling, MAHCP executive director. "Our coalition has developed URx as a smart and scalable value-based benefit design that delivers tangible savings to our employers."

"Innovative organizations like the Montana Association of Health Care Purchasers improve the quality of drug benefit programs while raising the bar for others in the industry to continue to improve health outcomes and manage health care expenditures," said Greg Watanabe, president of MedImpact Healthcare Systems, Inc.

MAHCP and MedImpact received a 2012 Rx Benefit Innovation Award from the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute for their collaborative work. The award recognizes URx for its innovative approach to pharmacy benefit management that delivers significant and credible savings for plan sponsors.

The Montana Association of Health Care Purchasers (MAHCP) is an independent, not-for-profit partnership of public and private employers formed in 1994 by several of the state's largest employers to pool their purchasing power.
