MAGNAVOX HONORED AS 'VENDOR OF THE YEAR'; LOCAL OUTLET CITED

COMMERCE, Ga., June 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The parent company of Magnavox, Philips Consumer Electronics Company, has been named "Vendor of the Year" by three leading national retail chains. Magnavox has a Factory Outlet store located here.
Wal-Mart, Target and Venture all honored the company after successfully featuring the full line of Magnavox products in their stores in 1992. John Rutledge, manager of the local Magnavox Factory Outlet, was thrilled with the news.
"This is great news for the entire Magnavox family," said Rutledge. "Being honored as the best consumer electronics company by these retailers is a testament to the quality of Magnavox products, the dedication of our associates and the high levels of customer satisfaction we seek to achieve."
The last point is one that is not lost on visitors to the Magnavox Factory Outlet. The company's slogan, "Our commitment to excellence is Total Customer Satisfaction," is printed on store signage, brochures, sales receipts and other materials, constantly reminding employees and customers that customer needs are paramount to all other considerations.
"We treat customers like intelligent people looking for value in their consumer electronics purchases," said Rutledge. "At Magnavox, the customer is king."
Magnavox color televisions, VCRs, stereos and other products are available at retailers nationwide. In addition, there are nine Magnavox Factory Outlets, where shoppers can purchase revitalized products at prices 25 percent to 60 percent off the suggested retail price. All products purchased at the Magnavox Factory Outlets carry the full manufacturer's warranty, and extended protection plans are available as well.
"The products we sell have been returned to the factory for one reason or another," said Jim Webb, director of factory outlet operations for Philips. "It may be that a customer simply changed their mind and returned the product. Or, there might have been a minor problem with the unit, such as a scratch on the cabinet.
"Regardless, all products go through a strict, ten-point QualityCheck before they are sold to ensure that they work properly and meet our rigid standards for quality."
Magnavox products are not the only items sold at the outlets. The company's Philips, Sylvania and Philco brands are also sold through the stores, as are a wide range of accessories, such as universal remote controls, blank tapes, headphones and carry cases. The outlets also sell a wide range of Cobra, Casio and other quality brand-name products at tremendous discounts.
In addition, the store sells a wide variety of other entertainment products, including Philips Compact Disc-Interactive (CD-I) players and software, video games and cordless telephones. Magnavox Personal Computers, from laptop to desktop, are available to meet home office needs.
"We design our stores to be fun to visit," said Webb. "Whereas in many factory outlets you might find rows and rows of corrugated boxes, at Magnavox you'll find products on display so you can test them before making your purchase.
"Magnavox Factory Outlets are an entertaining shopping experience."
Each of the Magnavox Factory Outlets, operated by PCEC's Service Company, offer carry-in repair services performed by a factory-trained service technician.
Philips Consumer Electronics Company is a division of North American Philips Corporation and a leading manufacturer of consumer electronics products.
