JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for the school season, Magnavox is coming to the aid of the nation's parents and children.
The aid comes in the form of a unique electronic device that allows families to budget the amount of time members of the household watch TV.
The Magnavox TV Allowance accessory allows anyone to allocate the amount of time that certain individuals may watch television. The product is modeled after the traditional idea of giving children an allowance, and is superior to previous television time-management devices in that it is unsusceptible to child tampering, ensuring parents the ability to make programs they find offensive inaccessible.
Each participating member of the family is assigned a numeric code, and is credited with an amount of time for watching TV during a given period. Each time a viewer enters his or her numeric code and turns on the TV, their "allowance" account is automatically debited the amount of time watched during that session.
A number of options are easily programmed by way of the intelligent, yet simple, system, providing great flexibility for individual circumstances. For example, Viewer No. 1 can be allotted 10 hours to watch any time during the coming week. Viewer No. 2 can be given 12 hours per week indefinitely, but can only watch during certain times. Viewer No. 3 can be allowed 9 hours over the next week but can only watch during specific times.
Other features of Magnavox TV Allowance include:
-- A LOOK button that allows the child or parent to check the time remaining in his or her account,
-- A SAVE function so the child can accumulate his or her allowance from week to week, building up credit towards a reward,
-- A MASTER code, used not only for programming, but also for parent, babysitter and special family viewing.
-- A BLOCK ability that can be used to block out certain time periods altogether.
"This is really a breakthrough device for parents who wish to teach their children how to budget their time," said John Falcone, vice president of marketing and sales for Magnavox Accessories. "And the kids learn how to juggle their increasingly busy schedules. Dividing time more evenly between homework and TV is always one of the most challenging aspects of childhood."
The TV Allowance box sits atop, and connects easily to, any television or video game player. It does not interfere with VCR, cable or remote control operation, and is easy to use and install. Constructed with the best materials and designed to be highly durable, TV Allowance is a non-obtrusive addition to a family's entertainment center.
Magnavox is the nation's second-largest color television brand. The Accessories Division of Philips Consumer Electronics Company, based in Jefferson City, markets a variety of advanced Magnavox and Philips products through leading consumer electronics retailers and servicers nationwide.
The Magnavox TV Allowance is available for $99.95 suggested retail through consumer electronics retailers or may be ordered direct from the Philips Accessories Hotline at 800-296-6066.
