 MAGMA COPPER COMPANY ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENTS OF CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AND VICE PRESIDENT, INTERNAL DEVELOPMENT
 TUCSON, Ariz., Jan. 13 /PRNewswire/ - Magma Copper Co. (AMEX: MCU) announced today the appointment of Douglas J. Purdom as vice president and chief financial officer of Magma Copper Co. effective Jan. 1, 1992.
 Purdom has been acting chief financial officer since August 1991 until his recent appointment. In his new assignment, Purdom will be responsible for the finance, treasury and controller functions of the company.
 Purdom joined Magma in 1989 as corporate controller and was previously with the accounting and consulting firm of Arthur Andersen & Co.
 Magma also announced that Robert P. Mueller will be joining Magma as vice president, internal development effective Feb. 1, 1992.
 Mueller's primary function will be to proliferate the already successful employee involvement program and lead the development of the organization, executives and managers to achieve Magma's strategic goals.
 Mueller comes to Magma from King, Chapman and Broussard, a Houston-based consulting company, where he was lead consultant. Prior to that, Mueller was in organizational development at Ford Motor Co. for 10 years and was a leading player in Ford's successful quality program during the '80s.
 Magma Copper Co., one of the largest primary copper producers in the United States, produces high-quality copper cathode and rod for sale to customers worldwide. Magma has operations in San Manuel, Miami, Superior and Humboldt, Ariz. and Ely, Nev. Corporate headquarters are in Tucson.
