MAGAZINES CITE DUKE POWER FOR INTELLIGENT USE OF COMPUTERS

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Nov. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power Co.'s (NYSE: DUK) information technology services department recently gained favorable mentions in the 1993 rankings of ComputerWorld and InformationWeek magazines.
 The two computer publications ranked Duke Power among the national leaders in utilizing information technology -- citing the company for being flexible amid the vast changes taking place in the computer industry.
 "This is a nice pat on the back for our employees," said Jim Hicks, Duke's vice president of information technology. "Computers are such an integral part of our business -- whether it's running power plants, delivering electricity or handling a customer's account."
 In ComputerWorld's "Premier 100," Duke ranked second in the nation among utilities, while in InformationWeek's listing, Duke was among the top six utilities.
