MADISON SPORTS & ENTERTAINMENT GROUP ACQUIRES WORLD ROLLER FEDERATION

KINGSTON, N.Y., March 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Madison Sports & Entertainment Group, Inc. (NASDAQ Bulletin Board: MSET), Kingston, a public company, announced that it has acquired the World Roller Federation (WRF) for stock from Alda-UK Communications Corp., Bridgeport, Conn.
Joseph Radcliffe, chairman of Madison, said that revenues for WRF are projected for 1993 at approximately $3 million, derived partly from its weekly TV show, "WRF Express," on SportsChannel America, where female and male teams competed in roller derby events, viewed nationally in the United States, and in Europe and Asia.
Patrick J. Schaefer, who heads WRF, has been elected a director of Madison. Corporate offices of WRF are being relocated from Deerfield Beach to Tampa, Fla., where this June a roller training facility, the first in the nation, will be opened.
Mr. Schaefer said that a "rebirth" of the sport is ongoing today in America, fueled by the popularity of roller blading, its appeal to a young audience, and the new competitive nature of roller derbys.
Mr. Radcliffe stated that Madison plans to accelerate the growth of the sport of roller skating in the United States and abroad by the sale of franchises, building more competitive teams and events, and expansion of television coverage.
Madison Sports operations include sports management, celebrity memorabilia and endorsements, and development of emerging sports.
