MACMILLAN NEW MEDIA BUILDS MEDICAL LIBRARY WITH PERSONAL LIBRARY WITH PERSONAL LIBRARY SOFTWARE AND ONLINE COMPUTER SYSTEMS

WASHINGTON, Nov. 1 /PRNewswire/ -- At a press conference held at SCAMC (the 17th Annual Symposium on Computer Applications in Medical Care), Macmillan New Media announced business alliances with Personal Library Software and Online Computer Systems.
Beginning with updates in January 1994, Macmillan New Media's entire medical product line will be updated suing PLS's retrieval software. Titles that will be available include "AIDS Compact Library," "The New England Journal of Medicine 1986-1993," "American Heart Association Compact Library 1988-1993," "The Physician's MEDLINE," and "Internal Medicine 1993." In all, 14 full-text titles will be published in the first quarter of the year, with new products and title updates continuing throughout 1994.
Frederick Bowes III, President of Macmillan New Media, said "With PLS's leading edge software, we can now support DOS, Macintosh, and Windows users all from the same CD-ROM, so you can carry a disc from your office computer to your home computer, and have the same interface and advanced search functionality on all platforms. Providing the research tool with our databases, PLS gives every physician the ability to carry a library in his or her pocket."
Matthew Koll, President and CEO of Personal Library Software, added, "Look at that list of titles. This is precisely what PLS exists for. Some time, someplace, some physician is going to find some information she wouldn't have found otherwise -- and that information has the power to change people's lives. It's great to be Macmillan's partner in this mission."
One of the benefits of using PLS is that titles published by Macmillan New Media will now offer fully integrated network functionality, including multiple distributed databases. To fully support this improved service, Macmillan New Media has selected Online Computer Systems as their network distributor. Ann Strong, the Executive Vice President of Macmillan New Media, said, "This gives us the workgroup computing solution we need to offer institutional and network users of our products. We are excited to offer full support for both software and hardware through our arrangement with Online."
Michael Romanies, Senior Vice President, Products Division at Online Computer Systems, Inc., stated, "We are excited to add Macmillan's full line of prestigious medical and general reference CD-ROM titles to our product line. This has enabled us to further expand our presence in the reference and multimedia markets and continue to offer our clients a full range of CD-ROM titles and solutions."
Macmillan New Media, a division of Macmillan Inc., located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, is a well-known multimedia publisher with medical, educational, and consumer titles.
