MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Winthrop Hotels & Resorts has been awarded the contract to manage Mackinac Island's highly regarded lakefront property, Mission Point Resort.
In making the announcement, Mission Point owner, John Shufelt, said, "Winthrop Hotels & Resorts has proven ability and expertise in managing island resort destinations like Mission Point."
David Ling, vice president of Hotel Operations for Winthrop Hotels & Resorts, said, "Winthrop is very pleased to be associated with Mission Point Resort. Our plans are to bring this quality resort to new heights through emphasis on service excellence and total guest satisfaction."
Kim Chappell, currently managing director of Grand Traverse Resort, also in Michigan, will serve as regional director for Mission Point Resort.
Mission Point Resort is located near Mackinac Island's historic downtown. Situated on 18 acres, it features 235 guest rooms and suites, two restaurants, nearly 37,000 square feet of meeting space including a conference center and theater, planned children's activities, outdoor heated swimming pool, hot tubs, tennis courts, exercise facility, game room, and on-site bicycle rentals.
Mackinac Island is located between the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan at the straits connecting lakes Michigan and Huron. It is famous for its natural beauty, Victorian architecture and tranquillity. The only modes of transportation on the island are horse-drawn carriages and bicycles.

With the addition of Mission Point Resort, Winthrop manages 10 hotels and resorts in six states. They include The White Elephant, The Harbor House and The Wharf Cottages on the island of Nantucket in Massachusetts; The Kelly House and Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown on the island of Martha's Vineyard, also in Massachusetts; Linden Row Inn located in Richmond, Va.; The Brookstown Inn of Winston-Salem, N.C.; The Lodge on The Green in Painted Post, N.Y.; and Grand Traverse Resort, located in Traverse City, Mich.
