MACKAY SIGNS TO DO THIRD BOOK

MACKAY SIGNS TO DO THIRD BOOK
NEW YORK, June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Twin Cities businessman and author

Harvey Mackay will publish his third book in January 1993.
Tentatively titled "Get a Job You Want, Keep the Job You Love, in Today's Frenzied Job Market," the new book will have a 250,000 first copy printing according to Mackay's new publisher, HarperCollins.
Jonathan Lazear, Mackay's agent on all three books, said Mackay was actively sought after by a number of publishers before signing with HarperCollins for "an advance well into seven figures."
"To the best of my knowledge," Lazear said, "no more than a handful of non-fiction books has ever received this kind of an advance."
William M. Shinker, HarperCollins Group vice president and publisher of the Adult Trade Group, said, "This is a great acquisition for HarperCollins and for HarperBusiness. Harvey Mackay is one of the most visible and admired figures in American business today.
"He is a tremendously successful businessman, civic leader and sought-after motivational speaker, and in 'Swim With the Sharks Without Being Eaten Alive' and 'Beware the Naked Man Who Offers You His Shirt' he has written two of the most pithy, readable and -- above all -- valuable books of business advice to date.
"There is no shortage of books of advice from successful businessmen. And yet, in a very crowded field, Harvey Mackay has managed to stand head and shoulders above the crowd. There is, quite simply, no one like Harvey Mackay."
Mackay's first two books have sold over seven million copies worldwide. "Swim With the Sharks" was the number one best-selling business book of 1988. It remained on the New York Times bestseller list for over six months, was translated into 25 languages and distributed in 80 countries, and was a selection of the Book-of-the- Month Club and the Fortune, Macmillan and Preferred Choice book clubs. "Beware the Naked Man" was also a number one bestseller on the New York Times list and was a Main Selection of the Book-of-the-Month Club and the Fortune, Macmillan and Quality Paperback book clubs.
"In his first two bestsellers, Harvey Mackay shared, in his inimitable way, tips for finding success in one's job," said Ed Breslin, HarperCollins senior vice president, associate publisher and executive editor of the Adult Trade Group, who acquired Mackay's manuscript.
"In the '90s the business climate has changed dramatically, and Harvey Mackay is now focusing his attention on advising his audience on how to find and keep jobs -- something he has done for 30 years, acting as mentor to some and adviser to many. Finding and keeping jobs are the main priorities of a decade where skilled professionals and even partners in major law firms are being shown the door in record numbers. 'Shark Proof' will be as useful and inspiring to his readers as it is necessary."
