MACINTOSH COMMON LISP 2.0 SHIPS

 MACINTOSH COMMON LISP 2.0 SHIPS

CUPERTINO, Calif., Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Apple Computer Inc.

(NASDAQ: AAPL) today announced the following: Product Description:
Macintosh Common Lisp (MCL) 2.0 is a Lisp programming environment that is fully integrated with the Macintosh personal computing platform. It is a full implementation of the current industry-standard Common Lisp programming language, as defined in "Common Lisp: The Language, Second Edition," by Guy L. Steele, Jr. Common Lisp is used on a variety of computer platforms for a broad range of applications. MCL 2.0 provides programmers with a rich set of Lisp programming tools, an incremental Common Lisp compiler, support for object-oriented programming using the Common Lisp Object System (CLOS), and an extensive library of CLOS objects including Macintosh user interface objects.
MCL 2.0 offers programmers the ability to exploit System 7 features, such as Apple events, and includes an ephemeral garbage collector to provide for efficient memory management. Because it is an object- oriented dynamic language (OODL) which provides automatic memory management, Common Lisp simplifies the creation of complex interactive applications. This feature makes it especially well- suited for rapid prototyping and custom development for business and education, scientific and engineering applications, and academic research. Significance:
With the availability of MCL 2.0, software developers can easily take advantage of the powerful capabilities that a Lisp programming environment offers on the Macintosh computer. MCL 2.0 not only makes extensive use of the intuitive Macintosh graphical user interface, but also provides programmers with additional tools and increased performance to further aid them in their applications development. Site Licenses:
Apple offers site licenses for Macintosh Common Lisp. Educational institutions and corporate and government customers can purchase unlimited site licenses or limited site licenses for as few as 10 users. For information regarding site licenses, contact Apple's Software Licensing Department at 408-974-4667. Availability/Distribution:
