MAC NETWORK MOVES TO NEW WILMINGTON HEADQUARTERS; Groundbreaking for New Data Center Scheduled for Early April

PHILADELPHIA, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Money Access Service Inc. (MAC), the nation's largest regional automated teller machine (ATM) network, is relocating its headquarters from Philadelphia to suburban Wilmington, Del.
The move to the new headquarters, located on 50 acres at 1100 Carr Road, will involve 225 employees and was expected to be completed today.
In addition to the approximately 100,000 square feet of space that will be occupied by the MAC network's administrative, customer service, operations and technology departments, a new 70,000-square-foot facility will be built and part of the building will house the Data Center. Groundbreaking for the new facility, which will be located adjacent to the Carr Road location, is scheduled for early April; construction is expected to be completed by early 1994. In the interim, the approximately 100 Data Center employees will continue to operate out of the current Philadelphia office, located at 5th and Market streets.
The move to Delaware was precipitated by the recent expansion of the MAC network under the auspices of parent company Electronic Payment Services, Inc. (EPS), which will also be headquartered at the Carr Road facility. (A joint venture among Banc One Corporation; CoreStates Financial Corp; PNC Financial Corp; and Society Corporation, EPS is also the holding company for BUYPASS Corporation, the nation's largest point- of-sale processing company.) Formerly a wholly-owned subsidiary of CoreStates Bank, N.A., the MAC network has been located in Philadelphia since its founding in 1979. "With the ongoing expansion of the network, we needed a location that would allow us to grow over an extended period of time, and with cost efficiency," said Douglas D. Anderson, chief executive officer of EPS. Anderson also cited Delaware's favorable business environment and the convenience of having all MAC associates together at one site as determining factors in the move.
In addition to the Delaware facilities, the MAC network maintains regional sales and service offices in Buffalo, N.Y.; Cincinnati; Long Island, N.Y.; Manchester, N.H.; Pittsburgh; and North Olmstead, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland. The BUYPASS point-of-sale business operates out of Atlanta; Philadelphia; and Woburn, Mass., as well as from its Manta Systems division in Pleasanton, Calif.
The MAC system currently has 1,400 participating financial institutions in 16 states (primarily in the Middle Atlantic and Midwest regions) and 26 million cardholders. It is the top electronic funds transfer (EFT) network in total transactions and a leading provider of point-of-sale services. MAC is a registered trademark of Money Access Service Inc., which is a subsidiary of Electronic Payment Services, Inc.
