MAC NETWORK ESTABLISHES MIDWEST PROCESSING LINKS

WILMINGTON, Del., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- The component networks of the Money Access Service -- Green Machine, Jubilee, MAC, The OWL and TriNet -- have now established individual processing links to facilitate the exchange of transactions between each of the networks and their members.
The links will enable the Midwest networks to communicate with the MAC switch, and will enable cardholders from these networks to use all 13,000 ATMs within the newly expanded network which operates under the MAC brand name.
The process of linking the networks began in late February, with the first link -- to Green Machine -- established on Feb. 24, The OWL on March 24 and Jubilee on March 30. In the month of March, which saw just one of the links in place for the full month, the MAC Middle Atlantic, New York and New England regions authorized more than 21,000 transactions for the Midwest networks, and the Midwest networks acquired more than 38,000 transactions. In April, the numbers climbed to approximately 69,000 and 80,000, respectively. (Previously, these would have been treated as national transactions.)
As of May 24, all ATM links were exchanging transactions. POS links for MAC participating networks are expected to be live by mid-June.
According to Michael L. Douglas, president of the newly expanded MAC network, "Establishing the technical links among the member networks represents a significant step forward in our ongoing Midwest expansion effort. Following on the heels of this milestone, we have formally begun the transition to the MAC brand, starting our marketing efforts in West Virginia, where new MAC signage began appearing last month."
In addition to signage, the West Virginia transition activity will also include distribution of statement inserts by financial institutions, and an awareness advertising campaign throughout the month of June. Signage and advertising efforts will be implemented in the Indiana, northern Kentucky and Ohio markets in the September/October time periods.
Douglas added that, since the beginning of the year, the newly expanded MAC network has added 21 member financial institutions, including 10 in the MAC East region and 11 in the Midwest market.
The MAC system currently has 1,400 participating financial institutions in 16 states (primarily in the Middle Atlantic and Midwest regions) and 28 million cardholders. It is the top electronic funds transfer network in total switch transactions, and a leading provider of point-of-sale services. Money Access Service Inc. and Money Access Service Corp. are subsidiaries of Electronic Payment Services, Inc.
