M'bishi Fuso releases most fuel-saving 2-ton truck.

YOKOHAMA, May 18 Kyodo

Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. on Friday launched a hybrid truck which it says is the most fuel-efficient on the market, capable of carrying a 2-ton load and equipped with a dual-clutch transmission.

The Canter Eco Hybrid truck, fully remodeled for the first time in close to six years, can run 12.8 kilometers on 1 liter of gasoline, achieving category-leading fuel efficiency thanks to a lithium ion battery with a 36 percent longer life than the previous model, the company said.

Noting the company has globally sold some 1,200 units of the previous model launched in 2006, President Albert Kirchmann said it ''will now expand (its) hybrid presence in more than 10 markets,'' and ''enter new markets in Europe and Asia.''

The suggested retail price of the latest model ranges between 5.48 million yen and 6.47 million yen, including taxes, according to the company based in Kawasaki, Kanagawa Prefecture.
