UK Liberty (LON:LBE), owner of the Liberty department store in London, confirmed it was in early takeover talks with potential buyers, but there were no guarantees of a deal at this stage.

The European Commission (EC) ruled in favour of US tool supplier Stanley Works (NYSE:SWK) buying home competitor Black & Decker (NYSE:BDK).

- TERRA INDUSTRIES TERMINATES DEAL WITH YARA

Norway's fertiliser maker Yara (OSL:YAR) said that US sector player Terra Industries (NYSE:TRA) has terminated their agreement from 12 February under which Yara was to take over the US group in a USD-4.1-billion (EUR2.9bn) all-cash deal.

Insolvent German retailer Karstadt has to find a buyer by end-May under the insolvency plan of receiver Klaus Hubert Goerg.

Wolfgang Mayrhuber, chief executive of German airline Lufthansa (ETR:LHA), said that the airline was not talking to Scandinavian air carrier SAS AB (STO:SAS) over a merger.
