Lutfi: Syrian-Turkish Strategic Cooperation Covers Many Fields, Has Immediate and Long-term Effects.

Damascus, (SANA) -- Minister of Economy and Trade Amer Housni Lutfi said on Monday that the strategic cooperation between Syria and Turkey covers many fields, mainly the fields of petroleum, gas, irrigation and transport. In an interview, Lutfi noted that the results of agreements between the two sides aren't just immediate, but also have medium and long-term effects, adding that a high-level regional cooperation is being forced among the area's countries, establishing a basis for President Bashar al-Assad's speech that the region's destiny can only be drawn by its sons. The Minister pointed out that cooperation is ongoing regarding liberating trade between Syria and Turkey, which began in 2007, taking advanced steps to completely liberate trade between the two countries. He said that Syria has almost finished building the Arab gas pipeline, which has reached the Turkish borders, and now the Turkish side must finish the part of the line within the Turkish lands and connect the Turkish gas network with the Arab gas line.Regarding irrigation, Lutfi said that Syria will draw water from the Tigris River to irrigate massive space of land in al-Hasaka governorate, which will lead to increasing agricultural production, creating work opportunities, and improving livelihood in that area.He added that Syria and Turkey agreed upon establishing a joint investment and a friendship dam on the Orontes River. The Minister said that strategic cooperation extends to other issues, such as liberating services, investment in various fields particularly in the northern area, and transport which is a very important issue due to the strategic geographic location of Syria that enables it to be a portal connecting west, north, east and south. On the development of relations and cooperation between Syria and France, Lutfi affirmed that this cooperation is solid and based on benefiting from the accumulating experience in FranceAa regarding important economic issues and developing Syrian capabilities, stressing the importance of this cooperation, particularly in the fields of transport, petroleum, electricity and renewable energy."Syria is open to the worldC* it looks into the experiences of others to benefit from them and pick what is suitable within available circumstances and capabilities in order to achieve the best results." Minister Lutfi concluded.H. Sabbagh / Mazen
