Lucy on a Dark mission.

The Dark Lord has plenty of improvement in him over fences and should be up to the task at Ludlow tomorrow.

Lucy Wadham's softly-softly approach with her 10-year-old can be vindicated with a big display in the Forbra Gold Challenge Cup (Handicap Chase).

Despite holding a clutch of recent engagements, The Dark Lord has not been seen on a racecourse since last April, when he could not have done the job any better over this course and distance.

That novice chase has also stood up pretty well as third-placed Martha's Kinsman landed quite a hot event here last month.

Despite finishing in the money on eight of his 16 starts over timber, Wadham's gelding was always going to make a decent chaser.

And as long as the ground is not too testing, this three-mile heat looks an ideal seasonal starting point.
