Lucerne--a strong brand for a strong region: home is where your heart is, so if you're looking for the best place to work, live and enjoy life, consider all that Lucerne has to offer.

Situated in the heart of Switzerland and in the centre of Europe, Lucerne is within easy reach of many cities abroad. The Basel and Zurich Airports are one hour away, while southern Germany and northern Italy are no further than two hours. And very soon, the A4 motorway will be finished, making Zurich a mere 40 minutes away by car.

Transport connections are just one of the advantages of Lucerne. Your company location must be close to a highly qualified, multilingual workforce--your key clients--and a favourable tax climate. Lucerne has one of the country's lowest rates of taxation on holding companies, which always receive preferential taxation because they are companies that do not operate, but "hold" other companies that do. In Lucerne, these companies pay a Swiss franc for every SFr 1,000 of taxable assets.

Quality education

Today's brainpower is already shaping our future. Many international companies have chosen Lucerne and benefited from the quality of its university students. Many bright people are enrolled in the business, music, art and architecture departments at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. Our hotel management schools are of worldwide renown, and in 2008, the University of Lucerne will officially open.

For many centuries, Lucerne has welcomed an international clientele, which is one of the reasons why the people of Lucerne are so open-minded and service-oriented. Most of the local inhabitants speak two or more languages--a big plus when it comes to recruiting motivated people from the local labour market.

D4 Business Center Luzern

Lucerne is where business becomes pleasure, as any one of the 750 employees at the D4 Business Center Lucerne will confirm. Only ten minutes from Lucerne, this unique campus with its own bus and train station has everything it takes to offer a balanced working environment.

With its modern office facilities, restaurant, conference and fitness centre, creche (and soon a four-star hotel), it's no wonder more than 70 companies decided to relocate to the D4 Business Center Luzern (www.D4center.ch).

While young companies go on to bloom in the TECHNOPARK, a unique business incubator (www.technoparkluzern.ch).

Availability of real estate

Not many cantons in Switzerland have real estate to offer in prime locations, for both residential and business purposes. Lucerne has some very attractive real estate only minutes from the motorways linking Stuttgart to Milan and Vienna to Paris.

For residential purposes, there are some delightful properties with lake and mountain views from which to choose. Lucerne is the ideal location for a long-term investment, and not only because the price per square metre is lower than in Zurich, Zug, Basel and Geneva.

Quality of life

Whatever you expect from a city, Lucerne has it. Lucerne will surprise you again and again. The avant-garde, such as the futuristic KKL Luzern Culture and Convention Centre designed by lean Nouvel, is as much a local landmark here as the century-old historical sights. Museums, theatres and festivals offer the perfect mix of tradition and trendy, making Lucerne a city of culture with a difference.

Lucerne knows the importance of schooling options and educating your children in English. The international schools are centrally located and pleased to discuss individual solutions with you.

For passionate golfers, Lucerne has more than 20 golf clubs and driving ranges within one hour's drive, some of them in town. There are also plenty of lakes for swimming, fishing or sailing.

Shopping

Strolling down the narrow streets that feed our city's airy squares, enjoy the vast assortment of shops and boutiques displaying all manner of fine wares--there's something to suit every taste.

If you are looking for something typically Swiss, jewellery or exclusive watches of world renown, attractive fashions or stylish accessories, you are sure to find it here. All this without even mentioning all the Swiss chocolate!

Build up your strength for the shopping expedition at one of our many delightful cafes or restaurants (or restore your strength afterwards!). In Lucerne, everything is close at hand and the old-town centre is car-free. In fact, shopping has never been so much fun.

Festival City

Lucerne's programme of festivals reflects our motto: the City, the Lake, and the Mountains. The multitude of music and cultural events held here are as captivating as the city itself, plus they are easy to get to and amazingly diverse. Do you prefer blues or classical? Comedy or theatre? Here, the choice is yours.

Lake Lucerne itself is as smooth as glass, and representative of the kind of finely honed, refined sounds that have always characterised the Lucerne Festival scene.

Then there are the mountains: the Lucerne Festival plays host to first-rate classical concerts. World-renowned orchestras, conductors and soloists delight audiences at the acoustically pioneering KKL concert hall; when will you be stepping onto its red carpet?

Premium business events

Imagine holding your corporate event where people like to come for their holidays: in Lucerne, in the heart of Switzerland. With domestic and international connections second-to-none and a professionally run conferencing infrastructure, we aim to see your corporate event reap the rewards of success.

Our infrastructures and wide choice of hotels leave nothing to be desired, whether you're looking to hire the KKL Lucerne Culture and Convention Centre or any of the grand hotels and other venues.

The city's spectacular lakeside location and the mountain scenery so close you can almost touch it combine to create the perfect setting for your event. In addition Lucerne has more than its fair share of places of interest, historical sights and cultural attractions. As for shopping, you won't know where to start.

So, how can we cater to your business needs?

Portrait of Lucerne

Lucerne is famous for its uniquely picturesque location. Nestled among the foothills of the Alps, the city lies at the end of a lake memorialised for all time by poets and composers, like Mark Twain and Richard Wagner.

Lucerne acts as a gateway to a very special part of the world: Central Switzerland. From the historic Rutli Meadow and the perpetual snow on Mt. Titlis to Lucerne's land-mark mountain, Mt. Pilatus, the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch and the famous locations on the Lucerne Riviera, everything is within easy reach--even in winter.

Mould-breaking designers and engineers gave Mr. Pilatus the world's steepest cog-railway, Mt. Rigi Europe's first mountain railway, and Mt. Titlis, the Rotair, an aerial cableway with a rotating cabin. Lucerne and the surrounding area count more than 150,000 inhabitants. Lucerne is the capital of Central Switzerland by virtue of its size, central location and economic potential.
