The new Teflon MP 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1400 and 1500 grades are said to show an unusual degree of color, particle size and property consistency. Unlike previous Teflon fluoro-additives, the new additives reportedly do not agglomerate and thus are more easily dispersible. One reportedly unique property of the Teflon MP 1500 grade is that it can increase the tear resistance of elastomers. At use levels of 20 phr, it reportedly increases the tear resistance of silicone rubber two to three times.

The additives, which come in white powders, have similar chemical and temperature resistance and low coefficient of friction. However, each has a slightly different molecular weight and particle size (from 1 to 50 microns).

ORGANIC CHEMICALS DIV.

Company's Daxad dispersing agents are extensively used in the emulsion polymerization of synthetic polymers, including SBR (styrene-butadiene rubbers), nitrile rubber, and acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS). They are used in both "hot" and "cold" rubber recipes and in dry rubber and latex emulsion production.

The functions of Daxad dispersing agents in polymerization are:

* To permit better heat transfer during polymerization because of reduced coagulum deposition (plating) on the reactor walls and lowered vidcosity resulting in easier stirring and increased heat transfer.

* To prevent "pre-floc" formation without contributing to foaming. This stabilizing function is believed to be primarily due to the ionic charge given to the suspended monomer particles by the absorbed Daxad and the resulting electrostatic repulsion between particles.

In addition to their use in polymerization recipes, Daxad dispersants find extensive application in preparing dispersions of materials such as antioxidants or pigments, which are commonly added to synthetic rubber and polymer emulsions.

*Kemamide S-180, E-180, P-181, S-221, E-221 secondary amides, are slip and antiblock agents which can withstand processing temperatures surpassing 550 F.

*Hystrene fatty acids are recommended as lubricants and mold-release agents in polystyrene.

* Kemestar CP is a mold-release agent in ABS.

*Kemester 5721 and 5822 fatty esters are lubricants for engineering resins.

New grades introduced:

*Atmos 150, Atmul 84, and Dimul S are food-grade, mold-release, antistatic, and antifog agents for use in polyolefins and PVC.

*Atmos 300 and Atmos 695 are antifog agents for polyolefins and PVC, and antistats for flexible PVC. They are also recommended to reduce the viscosity of vinyl plastisols.

*Atmos 150, Atmul 84, Dimul S, and Kemester GMB can be used as slip and antiblock agents in polyolefins.

*Moldpro series of products are internal mold-release and processing aids for use in polyolefins, engineering resins, and elastomers.
