He enlisted in the Navy in August 1989, and completed boot camp in San Diego in October that same year. During his 10 years of service as a Hospital Corpsman, he completed a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Care Management and was commissioned in October 1999 as a Supply Corps Officer. He completed Supply Officer Basic Qualification Course in Athens, Ga., and first served aboard USS Ogden (LPD 5) as Food Service Officer, Disbursing Officer, Postal Officer, and Sales and Services Officer.
He served as Logistics Readiness/Planner at the United States Fleet Forces Command in the Logistics Operations, Plans and Policy Division (N413) and was an active supporter of the Hampton Roads Supply Corps community.
His shore assignments included Site Director, Center for Service Support, San Diego Detachment; Chief, Inventory Integrity Division and Chief, Consolidation and Containerization Point, Defense Logistics Agency, Distribution Center San Joaquin, Tracy, Calif.; Operations, Plans, and Training Officer, U.S. Army's 834th Transportation Battalion, Military Ocean Terminal, Concord, Calif.; Student, Naval War College, Newport, R.I.
Lt. Cmdr. Edwards held a Masters Degrees in Business Administration and National Security and Strategic Studies. His awards and decorations included the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Commendation Medal, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, the Army Achievement Medal, three National Defense Service Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and was qualified as a Surface Warfare Supply Corps Officer.
He is survived by his wife and two sons. Lt. Cmdr. Edwards was honored during a memorial service held Dec. 1 at the NSA Hampton Roads POW/MIA Chapel, and at a memorial service held Dec. 3 at the All Saints Chapel on Naval Air Station Jacksonville, Fla.
