Low return of Oxbridge offers.

THE percentage of state school applicants receiving offers from Oxford and Cambridge is lower than the number who apply, figures reveal.

According to figures released by the Government, 60.1 per cent of all applicants to the UK's most elite universities were from state schools. But only 56.7 per cent of all those who received offers from Oxbridge were stateeducated.

For teenagers educated at private schools, the opposite was true. While 34.9 per cent of all Oxbridge applicants were from independent schools, 40.1 per cent of those who received offers were privately educated.

The figures were released by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
