Low cost wastewater information.

Housed in the Energy and Water Research Center at West Virginia University, the National Small Flows Clearinghouse (NSFC) provides technical information about onsite wastewater systems and about wastewater collection and treatment systems for communities of less that 10,000 people.

Established in 1979 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency under provisions of the Clean Water Act, the NSFC serves an information center on small flows technology and participates in a national training effort to assist small flows projects at the local level.

The NSFC maintains a large inventory of free or low-cost publications and products, including technical manual, video-tapes, training materials, brochures and technical case studies. Customized computer searches of the small flows bibliographic database also are available.

Two free newsletter are published and nationally distributed. Small Flows provides technical information and is geared toward the engineering and regulatory community; PIPELINE presents information about various wastewater topics for community officials.

The Wastewater Treatment Information Exchange is a free computer bulletin board that also offers specialized computer conferences designed by Clearinghouse staff.

Experts are available via a toll-free hotline to answer wastewater related inquiries and to make location-specific referrals.

The Clearinghouse sponsors annual workshops and seminars on wastewater design, finance and management topics.
