EasyJet said it expects unit revenue to decline 5%-10% in the second fiscal semester ending Sept. 30 as it continues "to offer low fares throughout the summer to ensure great deals for our customers and high load factors." It is forecasting a 5% decline in nonfuel CASK, allowing it to maintain its forecast of a 40%-50% year-over-year increase in pre-tax profit. It transported 3.3 million passengers in May, up 13.8% from the year-ago month, as load factor dipped 0.3 point to 83.6%. Jun 8, 2007

"Passengers will benefit. . .because these revenues will help keep our fares the lowest in Europe," COO and Deputy CEO Michael Cawley said. Jun 8, 2007

Ryanair CEO, Michael O'Leary, says that any eventual launch of a long-haul airline by the Irish carrier, would have to operate a business class service equivalent to, or better than, Virgin Atlantic's current offering. Speaking to media unveiling of Ryanair's record profits of [euro]401m, O'Leary nonetheless cautioned that the economic conditions would have to be right in order to secure the best aircraft for a long-haul carrier. O'Leary did not elaborate as to how the new airline would offer superior business class to that of Virgin - long considered to have set the industry benchmark in terms of front end quality with Upper Class - but he was at pains to point out that it had to be a completely separate entity. Ryanair posted a 33 percent jump in annual net profit on Tuesday helped by higher ticket prices but said profit growth would slow as higher UK interest rates prompt thrifty travelers to seek cheaper deals. Europe's biggest low-cost carrier said it expected profit growth of only around 5 percent in the current business year with average ticket prices falling as higher borrowing costs curb consumer spending in Britain, Ryanair's biggest market. Ryanair shares fell more than 7 percent as a warning for investors to be "cautious and conservative" on the year ahead overshadowed news that Ryanair would use its growing cash pile to buy back shares. Once adjusted to exclude one-off items, profit after tax at the airline rose to EUR401.4 million euros (USD$540.4 million) in the 12 months to end March versus EUR301.5 million a year earlier.
