Lovely homes so economical to run.

ACOUNTY Durham development has proved so popular that work has begun early on the second phase of the homes. The Woodlands, Shotley Bridge, has a selection of two, three, four and five-bedroom properties, with prices from PS219,950.

Catherine Cannon, marketing manager of Story Homes, said: "The Woodlands is certainly proving to be a popular development for Story Homes. And it's easy to see why as the homes boast fantastic exteriors and stylish interiors, as well as being ideally located.

"The site offers spectacular views across the beautiful Derwent Valley, yet it's less than 30 minutes to the centre of Newcastle or the A1.

"If buyers needed more convincing then factor in its level four status in the Code for Sustainable Homes and you've got what many people would consider the perfect place to live."

Simon McClelland, Story Homes sustainable homes adviser, explained what the code actually means.

"Basically your new home will benefit both yourself and the environment," he said. "Homes at The Woodlands are greener and more economical to run, they use less energy and produce significantly lower CO2 emissions.

"The main reasons are a combination of thermally-efficient build materials and photovoltaic roof panels which generate electricity at no extra cost.

"The houses are built to a high level of sound proofing, have A-rated kitchen appliances, low-use dual-flush toilets and 75% low-energy lighting. All of these ensure that homeowners can look forward to reduced energy bills."

Mr McClelland said that the National House Building Council has calculated that new homes built to current regulations could cut fuel bills by half.

"For example, a four-bedroom detached new home could be 55% cheaper to run, saving up to PS1,312 per year," he explained.

Story Homes also include as standard A-rated AEG/Electrolux integrated kitchen appliances, fire and fire surround, burglar alarm, stained staircase and French doors to the patio. Outside buyers can expect a paved patio, turfed front and back gardens, a 1.8mm fence to the rear garden and a large, block-paved driveway.

Two four-bedroom showhomes are open to view at The Woodlands. For details, visit or tel: 01207 583499.
