Love affair is long-distance for star pair.
Byline: Frank DurhamLOVE-STRUCK couple Cameron Diaz and Matt Dillon have found the perfect way to keep their passion pulsating - they keep their distance.
The co-stars of There's Something About Mary maintain separate homes - Matt's in New York and Cameron's in Los Angeles.
The couple, who say they want to marry and have children some day, have no plans to move in together. At present, they are happy spending just one week a month together.
Cameron, 26, also seems to be curing her lover's notorious wanderlust. An insider said: "Matt has matured a lot since meeting Cameron. He used to be an incredible womaniser but now he doesn't bother to flirt because he knows it upsets her."
Matt, 34, and former model Cameron are working on the old adage that absence makes their hearts grow fonder. Being together leads to trouble, as they found out when they had to live in one another's pockets while filming their new screen comedy in Miami.
The couple were constantly at one another's throats - particularly when Cameron objected to Matt eyeing up the girls - but now they're living apart, he gets lovesick for his co-star.
The insider said: "Matt's a flirtatious guy but he really is crazy for Cameron. He thinks about her constantly when she's away." Cameron is a typical Californian beach lover and she likes to be near the Hollywood action but Matt is a New Yorker, who has spent his entire 20-year film career in the city.
Cameron says: "I'm not moving to New York and he's not moving here. I miss him like crazy now." Matt picked Cameron up one recent Friday and treated her to a romantic weekend in Santa Barbara, up the coast from Los Angeles. They dined by candlelight in a cozy Italian restaurant, sat in a jacuzzi drinking champagne and took morning strolls on the beach.
The couple met in Minneapolis in 1995, when Matt was filming Beautiful Girls and she was shooting Feeling Minnesota, but it took a whole year before Matt plucked up the courage to phone and ask Cameron for a date.
