Love Island's Maura and Curtis jet to Ireland to meet the family but it's all sorts of awkward; The ballroom dancer is hoping Maura's mum will finally warm to him after a less-than-positive first meeting at the Love Island villa last week.

Love Island finalists Maura and Curtis have touched down in Ireland to visit her family - and was all sorts of awkward for Curtis.

The pair were filmed on Instastories by Maura's best friend Becky Marlow as the pair arrived for a welcome party at a local pub.

The venue was decorated in balloons and posters of the couple, who were showered with paper confetti as they walked in.

As a little girl runs up to greet Maura with a massive hug, Curtis is left standing alone in the background, looking awkward and unsure of what to do.

Maura was dressed in a denim shirt dress that barely skimmed her thighs, while Curtis wore his trademark dark jeans and white t-shirt combo.

He is seen standing behind Maura as she embraces the excited child, wringing his hands together and smiling uncomfortably.

It is clear the welcome home party is really for Maura, as she becomes the focal point of the occasion.

The ballroom dancer joined grid girl Maura as they arrived in Ireland to film meeting her extended family for this Sunday's special Reunion episode.

The trip comes just days after Maura's mum gave a measured response to her daughter she met the ballroom dancer in the villa last week.

Maura was visibly taken aback when her firm-talking mam awkwardly paused when asked what she thought of Curtis.

"Yeah... he's nice," she said insipidly, before adding "There's obviously something you see in him."

Showbiz editor's picks

Viewers will have to wait until Sunday's reunion show to see if Mrs Higgins warms to Curtis after spending time with him on their own turf.

Fans of the show believe that she is not keen on him after seeing the way he dumped Amy Hart before moving on swiftly with Maura.

Maura and Curtis' visit to the Emerald Isle comes after she was finally introduced to AJ, Curtis' brother, via FaceTime.
