Louis to put porn in the spotlight.

IN the 1990s, young journalist Louis Theroux landed his own TV series, Weird Weekends.

It included an episode about those involved with porn. Now, in Louis Theroux: Twilight of the Porn Stars, there's a chance to see how things have changed in the adult film industry over the past 15 years.

Back in 1997, actors and actresses explained how they made a living by getting up close and personal with complete strangers.

Louis Theroux Here, Louis examines California's San Fernando Valley again and explores the psychological effects of having sex in public and on film, and discovers an industry in crisis due to free internet porn. He finds one star has fled, one was sent to prison and another has killed himself.

The characters include Tommy Gunn, a former mechanic who became one of porn's leading performers. Then there's Kagney Lin Carter, 23, who has worked in porn for three years, and JJ Michaels, the actor Louis met when he was starting out in porn 15 years ago. Now he works in IT in suburban Missouri.

"I'm curious about people and what drives them to do the things they do. And charming the person you're interviewing a little means they let their guard down," explains Louis.

"I don't subscribe to that smart school of TV journalism that just says, "Look at these people, aren't they sad or weird?" Louis Theroux: Twilight Of The Porn Stars, BBC2, tomorrow, 10pm
