Lorry thieves thwarted.

A MAJOR police operation swung into action to thwart thieves who stole three lorries in Huddersfield.

The crooks used an oxyacetylene torch to break into a haulage yard on Lower Quarry Road, Bradley, just after midnight on Saturday.

They were spotted by a member of the public as they made their getaway in the three HGVs.

Patrol cars and a police helicopter were used to track them as they made their way along Cooper Bridge Road and Wakefield Road before getting on to the M62 eastbound.

A rolling road block was used to stop the lorries just after the motorway's Loft-house junction.

Three men from the Castleford and Pontefract areas were arrested and charged with theft of motor vehicles. They have been released on bail.
