Lorraine Davidson TALKING POLITICS: Lord Robertson.

Byline: Lorraine Davidson

I HAD the honour of dining with Lord Robertson at his official NATO residence this week. And boy, has our George done well for himself. He proudly showed his guests the Chinese wall coverings in his dining room which were donated by the Victoria & Albert Museum while Lord Carrington was NATO Secretary General. Unfortunately for them, when he left the job they discovered they had used the wrong glue and were unable to reclaim them. It means our George now has the most expensive wallpaper in the world. He confessed: "The last time I saw Derry Irvine I was able to tell him that my wallpaper makes his look like it comes from B&Q."

Unlike Irvine, who said he'd never heard of the DIY store, George Robertson is not a pretentious prat and actually deserves some of the finer things in life.
