Lorraine L. Ballard, 80MILLBURY - Lorraine L. Ballard, 80, of Manhattan, formerly of Millbury, MA passed away on Jan. 5, 2014 in the NY Weill Cornell Medical Center.Her parents were the late Charles and Clara (Fisette) Ballard. She leaves 2 sisters, Gloria Millette of Millbury and Anita Balcom, wife of William Balcom of Florida; 4 nieces and 1 nephew and their children; 4 great nieces and 6 great nephews. She also predeceased 8 of her cousins. She graduated from Millbury High School, attended City College of New York, and received a Degree of Bachelor of Arts from Hunter College of The City University of New York.Lorraine worked for State Mutual Life Insurance in Worcester and the Institute for The Living in Hartford, CT, before moving to Manhattan, where she lived for 60 years. There she worked as a waitress, a dental assistant, and then became a Special Administrator for the State of New York in the Unemployment Division. In her retirement, she was the President of the New York Chapter of PEF Retirees and fought hard for the enactment of the "COLA 2000" legislation, providing all PEF Retirees with better benefits. She enjoyed composing music, writing poetry and painting. She also loved traveling, especially abroad.A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd at the Assumption Church, 10 Waters St. in Millbury.
