Lord Mayor goes to polls in West Wales; NEWS IN BRIEF.

CARDIFF'S Lord Mayor Delme Bowen is standing for election at May's council elections in Carmarthenshire.

The Plaid Cymru councillor, who is moving to West Wales on May 18, said: "My family is from the Ferryside area and I've been building a cottage there for the past six years.

"I was asked to stand in the St Ishmael ward and I agreed. It will be a different experience. I have been sharing my time between Carmarthenshire and helping Wynford Ellis Owen, who is standing for Plaid in my old seat of Creigiau and St Fagans. In Carmarthenshire Plaid is the biggest party but has been frozen out of government by a coalition led by Independents.

"In contrast, Plaid has been part of a stable coalition in Cardiff.

"I have loved my time in Cardiff," explained Coun Bowen, who was born in Llanedi, near Ammanford and moved to the capital city in 1962.

Coun Bowen was first elected in 1979 as a councillor in Llantrisant.
