Look cool this Yule; Dress like the stars without breaking the bank, and knock 'em dead this Christmas.

Byline: Merle Brown

ALL women know the cry: "I've got nothing to wear". We've all screamed it at one point in our lives.

And this time of year just makes things even worse. It's Christmas, it's the party season and we have to look our best. But we can't spend a fortune on ourselves when presents have to be bought.

Then we pick up a magazine and see a star in an outfit we'd die for.

However, it's usually designer gear at extortionate prices and you're back to square one again. But that's where we come in.

You want to dress like Elle "The Body" Macpherson in a slinky strapless full-length red dress? You can - in a crushed velvet strapless evening gown in the Designers at Debenhams range, by Jasper Conran.

As part of Debenhams' 30 per cent off partywear promotion, hand over just pounds 105 and it's yours. Yes, that might seem expensive, but it's a timeless frock and red is the most festive shade around.

However, not everyone needs a full length formal evening frock.

Your party of the year might just be a night out in the pub with your workmates, and you won't want to get totally dressed up to the nines.

So go for the Madonna look. The Material Girl knows how to dress up those dressed-down clothes. To a pair of jeans, add a funky belt, a pair of high heels - preferably in gold or silver - and of course a logo T-shirt. While Madonna wears Kylie or Britney on her chest, Morgan gives you a Pop Star logo to splash over yours.

Kylie is a smart dresser herself and, being such a pint-sized pop princess, she can get away with pretty much anything. She likes to show off her decolletage area and what better way to do it than in a crossover '70s-style dress. Our purple River Island version is gathered at the waist - that means there is plenty of fabric to cover up a multitude of sins for those of us not quite in Kylie-shape.

Cameron Diaz makes us sick with her perfect hair and drop-dead gorgeous figure. Her clothes aren't bad either. At the Oscars this year she wore a fantastic black cut-to-the-thigh dress.

We copied her look with a Pierce II Fionda, Designers at Debenhams skirt - also with money off, and an Autograph at Marks & Spencer black top.

And finally, Jennifer Lopez, the Latin lady with the most amazing style. Gold is Jennifer's colour, and our River Island sparkly sequinned dress could have been worn by the diva herself, it's that glam. You may not be a superstar, but you, too, will go to the ball this Christmas.
