Long live the doorstep pint; Letters.

CONGRATULATIONS to Alan Bullock, who has retired from his Tyneside milk round at the age of 77 (The Journal, Saturday).

Mr Bullock certainly deserves a good rest after all those years of getting up before dawn.

"In my heyday, I delivered over 600 pints of milk a night, along with bags of potatoes, pop, eggs, cream and fresh orange," says Mr Bullock in your report.

Doesn't that just take you back? Spuds, pop, eggs and the rest. Mr Bullock and his fellow milkmen were like those supermarket home deliveries long before such deliveries were even thought of.

Milk rounds may not be as extensive as they once were - but many of us still rely on our morning pinta. Long may those pre-dawn deliveries continue.
