Local churches forsake tradition.

TRADITIONAL Church of England services in Coventry are in decline, a survey shows.

Peter Bolton, of the Prayer Book Society, said: "The service to suffer most is matins, or morning prayer, which is in danger of being wiped out altogether in the Coventry area, while there has been a slight increase in evening services of Holy Communion according to the Book of Common Prayer."

The society is a charity which aims to promote and preserve the use of the Book of Common Prayer (1662) - the traditional service book of the Anglican Church.

It contacted Anglican churches across Coventry in December and found less traditional services were taking place compared with findings in a similar survey in February 2002.
