3 surfers rescuedat Devil's Punchbowl
NEWPORT - A Coast Guard helicopter crew rescued three surfers in distress near Devil's Punchbowl State Park.
Lincoln County 911 dispatchers received a call at 1:40 p.m. Saturday reporting that a surfer was in trouble.
Coast Guard Dolphin helicopter co-pilot Lt. Matthew Poore said two other surfers tried to reach that surfer but they exhausted themselves.
Poore said that when the Coast Guard arrived, crew members picked up two surfers near the rocks and brought them to safety. They returned to find a third surfer who was unable to get himself away from the rocks so they hoisted him out of the water.
Since January, the Coast Guard has responded to cases involving six people at Devil's Punchbowl. Coast Guard officials are warning that this year's weather has been intense, especially at that location.
All three men were checked by local medics and were released in good condition.

Bail was set at $60,000 for Eric Robert Foreman, who is facing several charges including third-degree assault and pointing a firearm at another person.
The Madras Police Department said Foreman got into a fight and left the Madras Pub & Deli before returning early Saturday with a gun.
Police said people took Foreman to the ground after he showed the gun. A 38-year-old Madras woman was shot twice as people tried to disarm the suspect.
