Lloyd's of London and Fellow Insurance Industry Leaders Compete In The Sixth Atlantic Insurance Regatta in New York Harbor.

NEW YORK -- Lloyd's of London announces the sixth running of the Atlantic Insurance Regatta on the Hudson River, which began today at 11:30 a.m. EDT. Crews participating in today's regatta are members of the London and New York insurance markets, including executives from Lloyd's of London, Aon, Swiss Re and Guy Carpenter.

Just days after the America's Cup commences in Auckland, New Zealand, another special sailing tradition is revived as old rivals in London and New York race on courses laid out by the Manhattan Yacht Club, on the Hudson River.

In 1990 and 1993, London and New York teams raced against the dramatic backdrop of the downtown Manhattan skyline. The Twin Towers of the World Trade Center became the focal point of the regatta logo and a symbol for all those who participated in the regatta.

In the aftermath of last year's terrorist attacks, many participants remembered the good times and competitive spirit of races past and wanted to return for a sixth regatta and salute New York City by racing again.

"These regattas have forged lasting friendships and business partnerships. Today's regatta is a symbol of the cooperative spirit of the insurance industry, especially in two of its global centers, the great cities of London and New York," said Julian James, director of worldwide markets at Lloyd's of London.

The competitors and attendees of this year's regatta offer grateful thanks to the many sponsors of this exciting event.
