Living: Travel - Voyage of discovery.
The city's famous Jorvik Centre has just opened Viking Voyagers - a major new exhibition tracing the history of the Viking ship.
It follows the introduction of new designs and developments, and looks at some of the intriguing uses for the vessels, even voyages into the afterlife!
Visitors can follow clues around the exhibition to discover more about life on board, including the cargoes carried by these intrepid voyagers.
More than 500 Viking vessels have been discovered in north-west Europe, but few survive in any form other than ghostly traces in the soil.
At Jorvik, visitors can see real Viking Age artefacts including tools that would have been used to prepare the wood for constructing the ships and actual ship timbers discovered in York.
Viking Voyagers runs from this week until the end of the year. For ticket prices and opening hours, ring 01904 643211.
