Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, often called the 'state of a thousand lakes', is a newly-formed region that actually boasts more than 2,000 lakes in addition to countless nature reserves, castles and stunning coastline towns with white cliffs and beaches.

Located in the northwest corner of Germany, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is one of the least densely populated areas but features beautiful landscapes and a rich history. The Gothic red brick decor, particularly seen in the churches is the style of architecture mostly used in the state.

Situated within Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, in the district of Demmin is Schlosshotel Kittendorf, a palace constructed in 1848-1853 occupying a total surface area of 202.716 sqm.

The fully-furnished castle has recently been put up for sale, boasting about 100 hectre of land including the forest and lake that will make for ideal hunting and fishing grounds.

Alongside the palace is a historical water mill built in the 1750s, a new 10 car park depo and a traditional two storey ice-cellar.

The current owner purchased the palace in 1992 from Treuhandanstalt (National Trust) and by 1995 had completely renovated the citadel, filling it with rare and charming pieces of architecture.

An art-loving perfectionist, the owner travelled all over Europe to buy the finest antiques with the ambition of re-creating the palace's original ambience.

Among the showpieces are the library, the orangery and the bar in the wine cellar.

The palace has a living-space of 2,200 sqm distributed between three floors. On the ground floor are the lobby and reception area, four halls restored to their original decor, partly serving as a restaurant and also providing access to the park terrace.

The Orangery accommodates a cafoy, two breakfast rooms, the main kitchen, eight bedrooms, a bedroom suite and the administration offices. The first floor includes the historical library with its adjacent balcony, as well as 13 bedrooms, three suites and two storage rooms, and the so-called West Tower which has yet to be restored.

The basement has the generously designed restrooms for the public area, a luxurious bar designed as a wine cellar, a club room and a spacious lounge. In addition to that, there are seven bedrooms, a preparation kitchen, a food storage room and two boxrooms.

In total, the palace has 31 one/two bedrooms and suites and can occupy 354 residents. Kittendorf is also close to three national parks - Naturpark Nossentiner-Schwinzer Heide, Mo[bar]ritz National Park and Naturpark Feldberg.

The palace is 150km from Berlin, 200km from Hamburg and 85km from the Baltic Sea. A little airport (Laage) can be found 60km from Kittendorf and there are also hospitals and health and wellness clinics in the nearby city of Waren.
