Lithuania : Vice-Minister N. Germanas has opened two Lithuanian Honorary Consulates in Tunisia.

During his working visit on 5-8 February, Vice-Minister Neris Germanas, accompanied by Ambassador Dalius Cekuolis, accredited to the Tunisian Republic, inaugurated two honorary consulates - Tunisia and Suse. The Honorary Consul in Tunis is home to Khaled Fouratis, a multi-stakeholder, and Khaled Fouratis, a family-based pioneer of tourism, and Swansea, director of financial services group Swicorp for North Africa, Majd Chaabounis. During the ceremony, Ambassador D. ?ekuolis handed over exequatur to honorary consuls - permits for the performance of the honorary consuls of Tunisia.

The Vice-Minister met with Tunisian Foreign Minister Khemai Jhinaoui, who has been sent an invitation to visit Lithuania.

The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania and Tunisia on Bilateral Consultations was signed during the visit, and the first political consultations between the foreign ministries of the two countries took place.

The Vice-Minister noted that Lithuania will now have more opportunities to develop ties with Tunisia. It is expected that the appointed Honorary Consuls of Lithuania in Tunisia and Suso will significantly contribute to the development of bilateral political and economic relations, the implementation of cultural projects and the active representation of Lithuanian business interests.

During the meetings in Tunis, the issues of the international affairs of the European Union and Tunisia, cooperation in the United Nations and other international organizations were also discussed.

The Vice-Minister also met with Samir Majouli, President of the Tunisian Industry, Trade and Craft Union, who discussed the strengthening of economic relations between Lithuania and Tunisia.

Diplomatic relations between Lithuania and Tunisia were established on June 30, 1992.
