Lithuania : Lithuanian Ambassador to Russia visited Kaliningrad Oblast.

On February 19-21, Lithuanian Ambassador to the Russian Federation Remigijus Motuzas visited the Kaliningrad Region on a working visit. During the visit, the head of the mission met with the governor of the Kaliningrad region, A. Alichanov, other high-level officials.

During the meeting, the prospects of bilateral co-operation between Lithuania and Kaliningrad region were discussed: expressed concern about the situation of the Lithuanian language, welcomed the successful launch of the EU Cross Border Cooperation Program, discussed future cultural projects such as the commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Vyd?nas, etc. Particular attention was paid to economic cooperation - the Ambassador expressed concern about the problems of Lithuanian capital companies in the area, and also noted that the geopolitical threats, such as the deployment of Iskander rocket complexes, did not contribute to the investment attractiveness of this region.

The governor on his part highly emphasized the World Cup in Russia in the summer - part of the competition will be held in the Kaliningrad region. The Head of Delegation promised Lithuania's support in expanding the flow of passengers and support - providing assistance in servicing additional transit trains going through the territory of Lithuania, as well as intensifying coordination of border services and increased involvement of Lithuanian border regions (accommodation of football fans in hotels in Lithuania, etc.).

In addition to official meetings with regional authorities, the ambassador also visited Lithuanian capital companies, met with Lithuanian businessmen working in the field, participated in the 100th anniversary of the restoration of the state of Lithuania, congratulated the local Lithuanian community, and also visited the consulate of Sovetsk and the Catholic Resurrection of Christ the church - here with local Lithuanians and pastor A. Gauronskas, the situation of Lithuanians and perspectives on preservation of cultural heritage were discussed.
