SWINTON have made their first signing ahead of the 2020 Betfred Championship campaign.
The club - which plans to compete under the Manchester Lions brand - has secured the services of exciting utility back Brandon Wood.
The 19-year-old has featured for Rochdale Hornet this season, earning a deal with Matt Calland's side after impressing on trial.
He is a product of the same Rochdale Mayfield amateur club that developed star winger Matty Ashton, who will be making the step up to Super League next season with Warrington Wolves.
Lions coach Stuart Littler said: "Brandon is a young and exciting player who has certainly troubled us this year in our match-ups with Rochdale.
"After meeting with Brandon, I am sure he will fit nicely into our exciting young team and he is definitely coming here for the right reasons."
Wood, who has signed a two-year deal at Heywood Road, added: "Having spoken to Stuart about his plans for the upcoming season, I think it is going to be a great opportunity for me. I believe the Lions are going to be big competitors in the Championship. I can't wait to get started with the lads in pre-season."
Meanwhile, details of Oldham's Qualifying Semi-Final have been confirmed. Roughyeds will welcome the winner of Newcastle v Doncaster to the Vestacare Stadium on Sunday September 22.
