American Savings Bank announced the appointment of Linda M. Kolachny (photo), and Melissa E. Green (photo), as vice presidents of its new Real Estate Portfolio and Commercial Lending Division. The division, headed by executive vice president Stuart Weiner, oversees all lending relationships for commercial banking and performing real estate loans, and monitors those loans to head off potential problems.

Loan workouts and foreclosed real estate are managed by a separate division.

Both Kolachny, 40, and Green, 34, join American from CorEast Savings Bank, where they served as officers of the Richmond, Virginia-based institution's New York City operations. Kolachny was a vice president and senior workout officer and Green was a vice president and workout officer.

Prior to her two-year tenure at CorEast, Kolachny was a vice president at Marine Midland Bank, where she held posts in both the lending and workout areas.

She began her career in 1972 at College Point Savings Bank in New York, where she became a mortgage specialist and established the bank's secondary market program. In 1983, she joined the Commercial Trust Division of United Jersey Banks, and served as a real estate officer there until joining Marine Midland in 1988.

Kolachny earned an MBA degree in finance from Fairfield University after completing her undergraduate studies at Queens College of the City University of New York. She resides in Eastchester, New York.

Green, a lifetime New Yorker, was a loan workout specialist with Chase Manhattan Bank before joining CorEast. She started her career as an employee relations specialist at New York University in 1978, then moved to Chemical Bank three years later to work in its human resources division. She entered Chemical's credit training program in 1986 and became a real estate finance officer. She then joined Chase in early 1988.

Green holds a master's degree in personnel psychology from New York University, and a bachelor's degree from Vassar College, where she was graduated with honors. She is a member of the Association of Real Estate Women.
