Limelight site:

"... the name colored girls is a an act of resistance and an act of love."

Inspired by Ntozake Shange's choreopoem, For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When the Rainbow Is Enuf, along with embracing a philosophy of resistance to negative social constructs, the name was birthed. This site was created to "challenge the recent publishing industry's `discovery' that black women read and take that `discovery' to the next level."

As a platform for the challenge, founder Zakia M. Carter created an online hub for emerging and established women writers of color, including author interviews, links to articles and book reviews. According to the website, "Books about, by, and for women of color are highlighted--along with anything else we find interesting in the world of words."

In the Book Review section, no genre is left untouched. You'll find reviews of the latest literary fiction, along with critiques of the work. In the News section, which is updated daily, you'll find links to articles, some from grassroots online magazines, others from well-known publications that are of great interest to African-American, Caribbean, Asian, Latina, and Native American women. welcomes book reviews, as well as feature articles and essays of social, personal or political interest to women of color. But be aware that they only publish original work.--S.E.
