Like to meditate? Centre offers whatever floats your boat; ELLEN KIRWIN LEARNS HOW FLOTATION THERAPY CAN IMPROVE YOUR WELLBEING.

ADEDICATED float centre has been opened on Dale Street by cofounders Michael Partington, 27, and Lee Owens, 32, from Liverpool.

Float Planet offers flotation therapy which is also known as sensory deprivation or REST (Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy).

Athletes such as Wayne Rooney, Stephen Curry and Novak Djokovic are known to use flotation therapy, as well as celebrities including Zac Efron.

But the benefits can be enjoyed by anybody, according to coowner, Michael Partington, from Liverpool.

He said: "The benefits of floating include stress relief, improved sleep quality, increased blood circulation and enhanced mental clarity and alertness.

"Customers can achieve profound relaxation, meditation and wellness."

Flotation therapy takes place in specially designed flotation tanks.

The environment in the tank is completely controlled, everything from the temperature of the water (which is exactly 35.5 degrees) to the light is tailored to your needs.

Each tank has over 1,000lbs of Epsom salts dissolved into it which allows you to float effortlessly.

Tanks also block out all external distractions including sight and sound.

However, those floating can have some light or sound throughout to make them feel more comfortable.

People use flotation therapy to reduce their stress and anxiety, or improve their overall wellbeing.

It is also used in sport recovery.

Originally, in the 1950s, flotation tanks were used to explore and experiment with consciousness.

However, now that the tanks are more commonly used, users claim floating relieves neck and back pain, lowers blood pressure and heart rate and helps aid deep relaxation and creativity.

Here are some top tips from cofounder Michael Partington: | Fit your earplugs snugly before your pre-float shower; | Towel-dry your face and hair before entering the float pod; | Ensure any cuts or grazes are covered using the personal sachet of skin protectant provided; | Stretch out in the pod and, while settling, consciously let go of tension in your muscles and joints; | Once settled physically, breathe deeply and slowly; | Let itches run their course and try not to touch your face.

Lee Owens said: "Flotation therapy is totally unique.

"It gives you a chance to switch off, put your phone away and ignore all distractions while you invest in yourself for an hour.

"Mental health, sports recovery and overall wellbeing is so important, and it's time we all took care of ourselves a little better."

Single float prices start from PS40, monthly membership starts from PS30 and it's PS65 for a twofloat "bring a friend" package. For more information, or to book a float, visit
