Lighthouse set to shine; HISTORY.

THE Bell Rock lighthouse is to be the centre of a pounds 200,000 celebration of its 200th year.

The lighthouse, designed by Robert Stevenson and opened in 1811, is regarded by many as the greatest ever built and a superb 19th century feat.

It stands 30 metres tall on a reef 11 miles off Arbroath.

Arbroath Community Planning Partnership and Angus Council will begin the yearlong celebration - The Year of the Light - in 2011.

Harry Simpson, of ACPP, said: "We are planning a great series of events in 2011."
