Light sculpture a symbol of hope.

A LIGHT sculpture is to be created in memory of Jo Cox.

It will form a central part of a special memorial service held in the Batley and Spen MP's honour at Huddersfield's St Peter's Church (Huddersfield Parish Church) on Byram Street tonight . Members of the congregation will be able to tie red, white or blue ribbons onto the art piece, to reclaim the intended message of the British flag as a symbol of unity and hope.

Everyone is welcome to pay their respects at the event, which will begin at 6pm and will be attended by the three Kirklees MPs Jason McCartney, Barry world," he said.

"By tying ribbons of red, white and blue, we tie into, and connect ourselves to that light and love, and not the darkness and hate that killed her.

It will be the first big service held in south Kirklees for local people to come and remember the Labour MP, who was killed in Birstall last Thursday while on her way to her constituency office.

"I am sure everyone who knew Jo would want her vision of love and unity to live on," he added.

The Rev Canon Simon Moor, vicar of Huddersfield, said it was important for the church to respond to the grief and love felt for Jo here in Huddersfield.

The Rt Rev Jonathan Gibbs, the Bishop of Huddersfield, added: "In this service we also want to celebrate the promise that God's light shines even in the darkest places and that darkness can never finally overcome that light."
